Education & Community Outreach

Prince Theatre Artistic Director, Lucia Foster, runs Educational Outreach programs throughout the year, offering seasonal workshops for youth and adults. Any participant involved in Prince Theatre programming is referred to as a PLAYMAKER.

Prince Theatre programming engages the whole PLAYMAKER- physically, mentally and, artistically – providing practice in the areas of improvisation, movement, character development, self presentation, script building, critical thinking, and collaborative problem solving.

Stories of Our Elders Cast and ContributorsPLAYMAKERS IN THE SCHOOLS

The Prince Theatre collaborates with Kent County Public Schools to provide after school enrichment programs in all county middle schools; Chestertown, Rock Hall and Galena. Teen PlaymakersPLAYMAKERS IN THE COMMUNITY

Some Playmakers are active in the Prince Theatre’s Teen Theatre Troupe Currently 11 members strong, the troupe is working on its first project: Stories of our Elders. The troupe collects stories from community elders and devises theatre pieces to share the stories with audiences. This project is funded by a grant from Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area.

The Prince Theatre also engages Playmakers in collaborating with community groups on individual performance projects. Past collaborations include projects with the Kent Family Center, Phenomenal Women, C-300 and African American Heritage Day.

ADULT PROGRAMMING

In the fall of 2007, The Prince Theatre offered its first set of adult workshops, Introduction to Theatre Arts. The series provided an interactive overview with special focus on instructing the Actor, Writer and Director. The series concluded with student performances and peer-critique. Projects that emerged from this workshop are eligible for inclusion in the Prince Theatre’s annual 8x10 play festival. Additional Adult Workshops will be offered during 2008.
